MIAMI LAKES, Fla. -- For the second straight tournament, the Cal State East Bay women's golf team took on a field littered with nationally ranked teams this week. The Pioneers finished in 16th place at the Barry University Invitational on the Senator Course at Shula's Golf Club.Â
The Pioneers turned in team scores of 304, 312, and 308 in the 54-hole event to finish the tournament at 924 (+60). They beat Palm Beach Atlantic by a stroke and finished just three behind No. 19 Southwest Oklahoma State. Of the 15 teams ahead of them, 13 are ranked in the top-25 nationally. That includes Barry, the No. 1 team in Division II, which won its home tournament as the only squad to finish under par.
Senior
Carolin Chang was outstanding in Tuesday's final round, tallying four birdies and finishing two strokes under par with a 70. She notched a a share of 23rd place in the individual field with a three-round total of 221 (+5).
Freshman
Drishti Karumbaya opened the tournament with a strong round of 74 Monday morning, then posted back-to-back 77's to finish in the top half of the individual field.
Below are CSUEB's final individual scores. The team now has just two regular season tournaments remaining before CCAA Championships, starting in two weeks at the Western New Mexico Intercollegiate in Goodyear, Ariz.
