HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay men's soccer teams will now be hosting two non-conference home games this weekend with a Friday afternoon contest against UC Santa Cruz at 4:00 p.m. and a Sunday morning match against Holy Names scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
WEEK IN REVIEW
The Cal State East Bay captured their first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) victory of the 2018 season with a, 3-2 win over Stanislaus State in the CCAA home opener on Friday afternoon, September 21.
Senior
Jonathan Cuevas (Reno, Nev.) found a huge way to score hos first game of the season as he netted in the game winning goal for host Pioneers with jus 53 seconds left in the game. Cuevas rung in a shot to the top right of the box on a free kick from about 30 yards out.
The Warriors would break into the scoring frenzy first as Javier Ceballos put a shot just past East Bay to take a 1-0 lead. His goal was assisted by Daniel Galvan in the 47th minutes of action.
Minutes later the Cal State East Bay senior
Jonathan Ayala (Concord, Calif.) his team-leading second goal of the season as he rebounded his own shot off the crossbar to the bottom left corner of the goal to knot the game at 1-1.
A minute later the Warriors took a 2-1 advantage as Desmond Madrigal headed a pass from Adrian Yepez into the back center of the goal.
But the final two goals of the game would belong to Cal State East Bay as freshman
Michael Francisco (Hayward, Calif.) evened the game at 2-2 scored the first goal of his CSUEB career on an excellent pass from
Jonathan Ayala. For Ayala it was his first assist as a Pioneer.
Senior
Omar Coronel (Santa Rosa, Calif.) logged all 90 minutes in goal recording two saves while allowing two goals.
The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team dropped its California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) match, 2-0 to the visiting Chico State Wildcats on Sunday afternoon, September 23 at Pioneer Stadium.
The Pioneers were outshot by the visiting Wildcats, 11-7 with four shots on goal from CSUEB and six shots on goal from Chico State.
Senior Jonathan Alaya (Concord, Calif.) paced Cal State East Bay was three shots with two shots coming on goal. Fellow seniors
Brett Fuchs (Folsom, Calif.) and
Ben Reiter (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) added one shot on goal each while junior
Tyson Griffin (San Diego, Calif.) attempted one shot.
Senior goalkeeper
Omar Coronel (Santa Rosa, Calif.) compiled four saves for the match while allowing two goals.

Jonathan Ayala (Concord, Calif.) leads the Pioneers with two goals scored and five points on the season. He is also tops on the team with 21 total shots with 12 shots coming on goal. Ayala also has CSUEB's lone assist of the season.
Jonathan Cuevas (Reno, Nev.) has one goal on the season after scoring the Pioneers game-winning goal in their first CCAA win of the season over Chico State. Freshman
Michael Francisco (Hayward, Calif.) has also tallied one goal on the season.

Brett Fuchs (Folsom, Calif.) are tops on the team in minutes played. Cuevas leads the Pioneers with 640 minutes played while Fuchs is right behind him with 630 minutes of action.
Goalkeeper
Omar Coronel (Santa Rosa, Calif.) leads the Pioneers in the box with 29 saves through seven games played including two shutouts. His 29 saves are fourth in the conference as he also recorded a career best eight saves against Cal State San Marcos.
Juan Diego Escalante (Castro Valley, Calif.) is second on the squad with two saves through 45 minutes of action.
SCOUTING UC SANTA CRUZ
The UC Santa Cruz enters the matchup with a 2-6 record after an, 1-0 victory over Cal Lutheran on September 22. Ari Statler leads the Banana Slugs with three goals and six points. James Allison is tied for the team lead with one assist while also having one goal and three points. Andrew Pimentel leads UC Santa Cruz with 15 saves through three games played. Zachary Lamb is second on the squad with 12 saves through five games of action.
SCOUTING HOLY NAMES
The Holy Names Hawks come into the contest with a 1-4-1 record on the season a, 4-2 win over UC Santa Cruz. Josiah Romero and Lucas Felice are both tied for the Holy Names lead with two goals apiece. Romero has accumulated five points on the season with Felice compiling four points. Bryan Canchola leads the Hawks with 15 goals through four games.
