HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay baseball team concluded the Pioneer Athletics Homecoming weekend with an, 8-0 victory over the University of British Columbia Thurnderbirds on Sunday afternoon, February 11 at Pioneer Field.

The shutout win moved the Pioneers to 3-1 as they avoided a split in their season opening series.

CSUEB racked up a season best 14 hits while picking up their first shutout of the 2018 season.
Â
East Bay hung two runs on the scoreboard in the opening inning of action before tacking on four more runs in the third and one final score in the fifth to seal the win.

Senior pitcher
Jacob Call (Fremont, Calif.) got the start on the mound and tossed an outstanding game. Call (W, 1-0) went 6.0 innings while retiring a career-best nine batters. He only gave up to hits and walked two batters while allowing no runs scored.

Junior
Paul Bryniarski (Fountain Hills, Ariz.) opened the game with a successful bunt down the left field line. Bryniarski then stole second before reaching third base on a wild pitch. He would score on as
Raymond Jones (San Diego, Calif.) picked up his only RBI of the outing.

Bryniarski finished with one hit, one run scored and a stolen base. Jones compiled a hit and a RBI with a pair of fantastic grab from his is right field spot.

Junior
Jordan Estes (Sacramento, Calif.) paced the Pioneers with three hits and two stolen bases. Estes also scored East Bay's first run of the third inning.

A trio of Pioneer added multi-hit performances to their afternoon.
Dallas Dey (Tustin, Calif.) finished with two hits, a run scored and a stolen base.
Evan Steele (Clovis, Calif.) notched two doubles, two RBI and a run scored.
Matt Cantelme (Fair Oaks, Calif.) also chipped in two hits, including a double with two RBI and two runs scored.

Dakota Conners (Manteca, Calif.),
Nolan Jekich (Boise, Idaho) and Nicolas Enrico (Honolulu, Hawaii) all added one hit for East Bay. Conners and Jekich both garnered a RBI while Conners and Enrico each scored a run.

Nick Risucci (Las Vegas, Nev.) stepped in a tossed three innings in relief. Risucci logged three strikeouts while only allowing two hits, one walk and no runs scored.

East Bay will return to action Tuesday afternoon, February 13 with a non-conference meeting with William Jesup at Pioneer Field. The opening pitch will be at 2:00 pm.
