HAYWARD, Calif., -- Home runs were bountiful as the Cal State East Bay baseball team dropped a non-conference contest, 12-8 to the visiting William Jessup Warriors on Tuesday afternoon, February 13 at Pioneer Field.

With the loss the Pioneers move to 3-2 in the early potion of their 2018 season.

The duo of
Jacob Eder (Prescott, Ariz.) and
Jordan Estes (Sacramento, Calif.) both cracked their first career home runs as Pioneers. Estes put East Bay on the scoreboard first with a jack over the left center fence. He finished with a HR, a RBI and a run scored. Eder also homered over the left center wall as the Pioneers were clawing back into the ball game in the bottom of the 7th inning. Eder paced CSUEB with three hits, four runs scored and three RBI.

After jumping out to an early, 2-0 lead in the opening inning, William Jessup responded with four runs in the second, one run in the third and three more runs in the top of the fourth.

East Bay would fight back into the game with a run in the fourth, two runs in the sixth and three runs scored in the seventh inning. But the Warriors would close the outing with three runs in the ninth to just one score from the Pioneers.

Senior
Raymond Jones (San Diego, Calif.) compiled two hits, including a double and a run scored. Junior
Paul Bryniarski also chipped in two hits.

Junior
Dakota Conners (Manteca, Calif.) finished with two RBI and a hit. Junior
Aaron Albaum (San Carlos, Calif.) added a hit and a run scored.

Matt Cantelme (Fair Oaks, Calif.) and
Colt Parshall (Oakdale, Calif.) each tallied one hit apiece for East Bay with Parshall's hit going for two bases.

Evan Steele (Clovis, Calif.) and
Joey Dice (Reno. Nev.) each scored a run for the Pioneers. Dice also recorded East Bay's lone stolen base of the afternoon.

The Pioneers had seven pitchers in rotation on Tuesday as
Alex Vesia (Alpine, Calif.) got first dibs on the mound and retired two batters in his only inning of action. Freshman
Stas Kuntz (L, 0-1), a native of Fremont, Calif., (L, 0-1) allowed four runs through 31 pitches in the second inning.

Joe Blair (Modesto, Calif.) tossed one inning while only allowing one earned run. He was followed by junior
Jordan Milligan (San Jose, Calif.) saw an inning of work on the mound tossing 17 pitches and allowing there runs scored.

Sophomore
Ransome Alexander (Fullerton, Calif.) and senior
Joey Portugal (San Diego, Calif.) both finished with two innings of action for East Bay. Alexander logged two strikeouts with run run allowed. Portgual led all Pioneer hurlers with 34 total pitches with one strikeout.

Freshman
Mark Woinarowicz (Yorba Linda, Calif.) concluded the afternoon for the Pioneer with 16 throws in the final innings without allowing any runs scored.

East Bay will take part in their Alumni Game on Saturday, February 17 at Pioneer Field beginning at noon. The Pioneers will then head to the Rocklin for a Monday, February 19 rematch against William Jessup with a 1:00 start at McBean Park.
