HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team will have matches against California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) rivals Cal State Monterey Bay and San Francisco State.

East Bay will travel to Seaside to face Monterey Bay and kick off the 'Battle of the Bays" on Wednesday afternoon, October 10 before hosting SF State in the "Bay Bridge Battle" on Sunday morning, October 14.

WEEK IN REVIEW
The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team was defeated, 8-1 as they opened their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) road trip against No. 13 Cal State L.A. on Thursday night, October 4 at University Stadium.

The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead at the intermission after a hat trick from Daniel Simonis and a pair of scores from Leonardo Nogueira. Teo Jukic and Hunter Hwang would score the final two goals for CSULA in the second half on action.

Pioneer senior captain
Carter Magee (Belfast, Northern Ireland) notched his second score of the season as he knocked in a rebound off a shot from fellow senior
Jared Johnson (Los Altos, Calif.). Magee now has two goals and four points of five shots this season.

Senior goalkeeper
Omar Coronel (Santa Rosa, Calif.) tallied all 90 minutes in the box for East Bay and recorded three saves.

The Cal State East Bay men's soccer program concluded their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) weekend road trip with a, 3-2 loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday morning, October 6 at Toro Stadium.

The Pioneers entered the scoring column early as senior
Jonathan Ayala (Concord, Calif.) scored in the 9th minute of action. Fellow senior
Jonathan Cuevas (Reno, Nev.) and freshman
Michael Francisco (Hayward, Calif.) were awarded the assists on the play as Cuevas dribbled into the goal and passed to Francisco on the right side before crossing back to Ayala in the box for an easy score.

For Ayala, it was his team leading sixth goal of the season and his fourth goal in conference action. Francisco now leads CSUEB with four assists, including three assists in CCAA play.

The Pioneers carried a 1-0 lead into the intermission and opened the second half with a goal by freshman
Marco Campos (Hayward, Calif.) to claim a 2-0 lead.

Campos was assisted on freshman
Joe Takada (Honolulu, Hawaii) and senior
Ben Reiter (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) as Takada and Reiter moved the ball on the left side and crossed the pass into Campos in the box for a one touch high kick score. It was the first career goal and assist as a Pioneer for Campos and Takada and it was Reiter's first assist of the season.

But it would be the host Toros that would get a second half hat trick by George Almeida to claim a 3-2 home victory.

Omar Coronel (Santa Rosa, Calif.) clocked all 90 minutes in goal and logged six saves on the game.

Jonathan Ayala (Concord, Calif.) leads the Pioneers with seven goals scored and 15 points on the season. Ayala is tied for second in the conference in goals scored and tied for fourth sixth in total points. He is also tops on the team with 33 total shots which is sixth in the CCAA. Ayala also has one game-winning goal on the season.

Michael Francisco (Hayward, Calif.) is pacing East Bay with four assists which is tied for fourth in the CCAA. Francisco is second on CSUEB with two goals and eight points.

Jonathan Cuevas (Reno, Nev.) has one goal and one assist on the season.

SCOUTING CAL STATE MONTEREY BAY
The Cal State Monterey Bay Otters enter the Battle of the Bay with a 4-6 overall mark on the season with a 2-4 record in conference play after defeating Cal State Dominguez Hills, 5-0 before falling to No. 13 Cal State L.A., 2-0. Luis Lopez leads the Otters with four goals while Walmer Martinez is tops on the squad with four assists. Daniel Lomeli leads CSUMB in the box with 30 saves through 10 matches including one shutout.

SCOUTING SF STATE
The SF State Gators come into the Bay Bridge Battle with a 7-2-3 record on the season with a 4-2-2 mark in CCAA action after wins over Cal State San Marcos and No. 9 UC San Diego. Carlos Trujeque leal is pacing SF State with five goals while Clayton Sato, Crinan Dunbar and Moses Gutierrez are all tied for the team lead with two assists apiece. Peter Swinkels is tops on the squad with 44 saves through 12 games with seven shutouts.
