KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Add a fifth postseason award to
Alejandro Zarate's collection. The midfielder from Cal State East Bay was named United Soccer Coaches All-West Region Second Team this week. Three organizations - CCAA, D2CCA and United Soccer Coaches have honored him with a combined five postseason awards.
Before this week's honor, Zarate was named D2CCA All-America Second Team and All-West Region First Team. Also in 2025, Zarate became the first Pioneer ever to be named CCAA Midfielder of the Year and was named to the All-CCAA First Team. With his pair of braces in mid-October, he was named FloCollege/CCAA Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for Oct. 13-19.
As the Pioneers reached the 2025 CCAA Tournament Semifinals for a second straight season, Zarate led the squad with his offensive prowess. He had a team-high nine goals and nine assists for 27 points - the most by a Pioneer since joining the CCAA.
Of his nine goals, Zarate had three braces, two of which were in back-to-back matches on October 17 and 19. All three of his braces included the game winning goal for East Bay. He led the CCAA in shots-per-match (3.89) and had a conference high 32 shots on goal.
