HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay women's soccer program will have contests against rivals of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Cal State Monterey Bay and San Francisco State.
 
East Bay will face Monterey Bay in Seaside on Wednesday afternoon, October 10 to commence the "Battle of Bays" before returning home to take on SF State in the "Bay Bridge Battle" on Sunday afternoon, October 14.

WEEK IN REVIEW
The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team opened their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) road trip with a, 0-0 draw against the Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles on Thursday afternoon, October 4 at University Stadium.
 
It was CSUEB's second consecutive game going into extra minutes and just the second contest of the season in which they failed to score a goal.
 
Freshman Briana Vasquez-Ortiz (Long Beach, Calif.) logged all 110 minutes in the box and compiled seven saves. She now has five shutouts on the season.
 
The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team picked up a, 1-0 road victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday afternoon, October 6 at Toro Stadium.
 
Junior Jamie McPherson (San Leandro, Calif.) scored the lone goal on the afternoon on a penalty goal kick into the lower left corner of the net to give the Pioneers in 1-0 lead in the first half. For McPherson it was her third goal of the season. It was her first goal in conference action this season.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Briana Vasquez-Ortiz (Long Beach, Calif.) recorded her second consecutive shutout of the road trip as she finished with six saves on the afternoon. Vasquez-Ortiz now has six shutouts on the season.
 
PIONEER POINTS
The Pioneers got off to a 5-0 to the season which is the program's best start since joining the CCAA. Cal State East Bay had only allowed one goal through those five games.
 
Abby Buitrago (San Jose, Calif.) leads the Pioneers with four goals scored which are tied for fourth in the conference. Buitrago's nine points are also tied for third in the CCAA and her three game-winning goals are tied for tops in the conference.
 
Chace Miguel (Hollister, Calif.) is tied for second on the Pioneers with three goals and seven points. Miguel second on the squad with two goals in CCAA action and she has one assist on the season. Jamie McPherson (San Leandro, Calif.) also has three goals on the season along with two assists and eight points. All three of McPherson's goals have come in CCAA action including the game- winning goal in East Bay's win over Dominguez Hills.
 
Keionna Claypoole (Sacramento, Calif.) and Jordan Lemieux (Bothell, Wash.) also have two assists apiece to lead the Pioneers.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Briana Vasquez-Ortiz (Long Beach, Calif.) has racked up 42 saves and five shutouts. Vasquez-Ortiz is tied for third in the conference lead with five shutouts.
 
SCOUTING CAL STATE MONTEREY BAY
The Cal State Monterey Bay Otters enter the "Battle of the Bays" match with a 5-5-1 record on the season with a 2-4-0 mark in CCAA play after a, 1-0 victory over Dominguez Hills and a, 1-0 loss to Cal State L.A. Madison Aguirre leads the Otters with two goals and five points on the season. Stephanie Busch leads CSUMB with 55 saves through 11 games with five shutouts.
 
SCOUTING SF STATE
The San Francisco State Gators come into the "Bay Bridge Battle" with a record on 6-5-1 on the year with 4-3-1 mark in CCAA action after a 1-0 victory over San Marcos and a 1-0 defeated at the hands of No. 1 UC San Diego. Tamo Kwong is tops on the Gators with three goals and six points. Nikki Rucki leads SF State and the conference with 65 saves through 12 matches including six shutouts.
