HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay men's soccer program will travel to Southern California for a pair of California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) matches against No. 13 Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills.

The Pioneers will face the Eagles on Thursday, October 4 at 7:00 p.m. at University Stadium and then play against the Toros on Saturday, October 6 at 11:30 a.m. at Toro Stadium.

WEEK IN REVIEW
The Cal State East Bay men's soccer program dropped their non-conference home contest, 4-3 to the visiting UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs on Friday afternoon, September 28 at Pioneer Stadium.

It was the Pioneers first loss to the Banana Slugs since falling to them twice in 2008. With the loss the Pioneers move to 2-5-1 on the season.

Cal State East Bay opened the scoring for the afternoon as senior captain
Carter Magee (Belfast, Northern Ireland) scored his first goal of the season on a right-footed boot over the goalkeepers reach from about 30 yards out. He was assisted on the goal by freshman
Marco Campos (Hayward, Calif.).

The Pioneers would lock the game at 2-2 when senior
Jonathan Ayala (Concord, Calif.), East Bay's leading scorer, notched his first goal of the afternoon after receiving a excellently placed pass from freshman
Michael Francisco (Hayward, Calif.).

Michael Francisco would connect yet again to tie the game at 3-3 as Ayala scored on a pass through traffic from Francisco. Ayala finished with two goals and Francisco tallied two assists.

The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team concluded their non-conference schedule with a, 2-1 victory over Holy Names on Sunday afternoon, September 30 at Pioneer Stadium.

With the win East Bay improves to 3-5-1 on the season with a 3-3 mark in game played at Pioneer Stadium. CSUEB finishes the non-conference season with a 2-3 record.

In the second half, the Pioneers started the get things clicking as senior
Jonathan Ayala (Concord, Calif.) headed in East Bay's first goal after receiving a well placed pass through the defense from freshman
Michael Francisco (Hayward, Calif.) to claim a 1-0 lead. Ayala is tops on the squad with five goals.

Michael Francisco wouldn't be done as minutes after assisting on Ayala's goal, Francisco rebounded his own shot attempt and scored to the back right of the net to put the Pioneers ahead 2-0.

Jonathan Ayala (Concord, Calif.) leads the Pioneers with five goals scored and 11 points on the season. Ayala is tied for third in the conference in goals scored and sixth in total points. He is also tops on the team with 28 total shots which is fourth in the CCAA. Ayala also has one game-winning goal on the season.

Michael Francisco (Hayward, Calif.) is pacing East Bay with three assists with is tied for fourth in the CCAA. Francisco is second on CSUEB with two goals and seven points.

Jonathan Cuevas (Reno, Nev.) has one goal on the season after scoring the Pioneers game-winning goal in their first CCAA win of the season over Chico State. Senior captain
Carter Magee (Belfast, Northern Ireland) has also tallied one goal on the season.

Omar Coronel (Santa Rosa, Calif.) leads the Pioneers in the box with 36 saves through nine games played including two shutouts. His 36 saves are fifth in the conference as he also recorded a career best eight saves against Cal State San Marcos.

The Cal State L.A. Eagles are currently ranked no. 13 in the nation with an 8-1-1 record on the season with a 5-0-1 mark in conference action after a, 5-0 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills and a, 0-0 tie against SF State. Robin Lindahl leads CSULA with seven goals while Leonardo Noqueira and Daniel Simonis are tied for the team lead with three assists each. Alexander Brems is tops on the team with 24 saves through 10 games in goal and seven shutouts.

SCOUTING CAL STATE DOMINGUEZ HILLS
The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros enter the matchup with the Pioneers with a 3-7 mark on the year with 3-3 record in conference play after back-to-back losses to Cal State L.A and SF State. Ramiro Palencia leads CSUDH with two goals on the season while George Almedia, Joshua Varon and Manuel Paez have all chipped in two assists apiece. Goalkeeper Justin Fairchild leads the Toros with 31 saves through 10 games with two shutouts.
