VALLEJO, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay women's golf team finished in 12th place at its home event, the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout, with a 36-hole score of 668 (+92) at Hiddenbrooke Golf Course.
Scores were high this week, primarily due to difficult playing conditions from heavy rain during the week prior to the tournament. But the Pioneers nonetheless improved by 14 strokes from the first round to the second, totaling 327 (+39) on Tuesday.
No. 6 ranked California Baptist won the tournament at 588 (+12), led by individual champion Laura Scrivner (+1). Sonoma State was the runner-up at 605 (+29). The Pioneers beat Saint Martin's and Metro State in the 14-team event.Â
Kelsi Valenzuela was CSUEB's top finisher for the week, taking a share of 35th place with a total of 162 (+18). After pacing the team on Monday, she shot 83 (+11) in the final round.
Taylor Wyss carded the low round of the day for East Bay with an 80 (+8). The junior tied for 43rd place in the overall field of 78 golfers at 166 (+22).Â

Julia Youn also carved a few strokes off her first round score, turning in an 81 (+9) on Tuesday for a total of 167 (+23) and a share of 45th place.
No Pioneer improved more in round two than
Sienna Starck, who dropped seven strokes to add an 83 (+29) to East Bay's team score. The junior finished tied for 60th place at 173 (+29).
Hafsa Khan rounded out the day with her second straight 94 (+22) to finish the tournament in 73rd place at 188 (+44).Â
Jamie Enseki had a good day competing unattached with a second-round score of 83 (+11). She finished as the top individual at the tournament at 168 (+24), tied for 47th place.
The Pioneers now have a week off before heading to Seaside to play in Cal State Monterey Bay's Otter Invitational Mar. 20-21.
