HAYWARD, Calif., – The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team will welcome two Southern division California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) squads to Pioneer Stadium this weekend. The Pioneers will host the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros on Friday night, October 6 at 7:00 pm and will end the weekend with a match against the Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles on Sunday Afternoon at 2:00 pm.

Sunday's game against Cal State L.A. will be Pink & White Day in support of breast and lung cancer research and awareness. The Pioneer Athletic department will be accepting donations at the entrance of Pioneer Stadium for the American Cancer Society.

WEEK IN REVIEW
The Pioneers are 3-8 on the season and 1-5 in CCAA play. East Bay dropped two tough matchups against Cal State Monterey Bay and San Francisco State, teams ranked in the middle half of the conference standings.

The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team concluded its midweek home match with a 2-0 defeat at the hands of CCAA rival  Cal State Monterey Bay on Wednesday afternoon, September 27 at Pioneer Stadium.

It was East Bay's fourth consecutive loss as they moved to 1-4 in CCAA action with a 3-7 overall mark. This was also the second straight home shutout for the Pioneers.

The Otters took a 2-0 lead into the intermission after Norma Verduzco connected on a header in the 21st minute of play. In the 41st minute of the match Hannah Kind scored her third goal of the season, which would prove to be the final score of the game.

Monterey Bay held the shot advantage 9-7 and the shot on goal battle 8-4.
Nae'lani O'Neal and
Miranda Gonzalez both paced the Pioneers with two shots apiece.
Lauren McDougal,
Abby Buitrago and
Kiret Pattar all tallied one shot each for CSUEB.

Ina Gonzalez logged 90 minutes in the net for the Pioneers and tied a career-best with five saves.

The Pioneer women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 shutout CCAA loss to San Francisco State on Friday afternoon at Cox Stadium.

The loss pushed Cal State East Bay to 1-5 in conference action and a 3-8 mark overall. The Gators improve to 6-2-1 on the season and 1-1-1 in CCAA play.

SF State's offensive charge was led by Tami Kwong who scored both of the Gator's goals in the match.

Kwong flashed some fancy footwork with her first goal. The freshman spun past her defender, drove right straight for the box, which drew goalkeeper
Ina Gonzalez out from the goal line. Kwong then finished to the far post for the early Gators lead. SF State's second goal game in the 59th minute when Laura Shea played a ball in from the right side into Kwong, whose first shot was blocked but she found the back of the net the second time as the ball skipped past the Pioneers defense.

Although the Pioneers were unable to score a goal in the contest, it was not from lack of offensive intensity. East Bay failed to capitalize on several opportunities. A failed clearance off of a corner kick resulted in SF State falling on the ball being whistled for a foul at the top of the box. The Pioneers held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks and played several dangerous balls into the box.

The Gators would win the shot advantage 9-7 and the shot on goal battle 5-4.
Savannah Schultz tallied a team-best three shots for CSUEB.

Ina Gonzalez got the start in goal for the Pioneers but it was
Cheyanne Foster who would lead East Bay with over 50 minutes of game action. Gonzalez recorded one saves during the match and Foster tallied two saves for the Pioneers.

BUITRAGO'S PIONEER POW
Freshman
Abby Buitrago (San Jose, Calif.) had a memorable Friday against Humboldt State, scoring the first two goals of her collegiate career to pace the squad to a 2-1 victory. They were also CSUEB's only two goals of the week and helped the Pioneers finish the first week of CCAA play with a 1-1 record.Â

Buitrago scored the first goal of the game against the Jacks in the 29th minute, beating a defender in the box off an assist from Lauran McDougal Then with the game tied 1-1 in the 72nd minute, Buitrago scored again off a rebound to clinch a dramatic win for East Bay.

She was selected as one of Cal State East Bay's Athletes of the Week for Sept. 11-17.

FERNANDEZ'S FURIOUS FINISHES AND MCDOUGAL'S MAGICAL MOVES
Junior
Aulani Fernandez (Brentwood, Calif.) currently leads the Pioneers with three goals on the year. Fernandez's two-goal game against Fresno Pacific was the first multi-goal performance of her Pioneer career.

Lauren McDougal (Elk Grove, Calif.) s pacing East Bay with three assists on the season. McDougal is tied for second in the CCAA with three assists as well.

GONZALEZ GIANT IN GOAL
Freshman
Ina Gonzalez has showed tremendous promise thus far in the net this season. Gonzalez has appeared in 10 games making nine starts. She has logged 28 saves through 98 shots faced.

SCOUTING CAL STATE DOMINGUEZ HILLS
The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros enter the weekend with a 1-7 mark on the season and a 0-4 record in CCAA action. The Toros fell to #10 UC San Diego 1-2 and Cal State San Marcos 0-2 before picking up their first win of the season in a 10-0 victory over Saint Katherine's College. Clarissa Chavez and Jada Thomas lead CSUDH with two goals apiece. Chavez also has a team-leading two assists. In goal for the Toros Ruth-Maria Soto paces Dominguez Hills 19 saves through four game started.

SCOUTING CAL STATE L.A.
The Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles are 4-2-2 on the season and 2-1-1 in conference play. The Golden Eagles defeated Cal State San Marcos 1-0 and dropped a match 0-3 to #10 UC San Diego last week. Paulina Chaidez has a conference-leading seven goals and Zarette Monoz-Aguilar has a team-leading two assists. Adriana Maldonado has tallied 33 saves and three shutouts through eight games for CSULA.
