HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Pioneer men's soccer team will host their final California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) home stand on the 2017 regular season. Cal State East Bay will welcome UC San Diego (Oct. 26) and Cal State San Marcos (Oct. 28) to Pioneer Stadium.

Saturday morning's match against Cal State San Marcos will be Senior Day for the Pionners has they will honor their six seniors:
Davis Okonkwo,
Ikaika Nichols,
Evan Sanchez,
TJ Butler, Aldolfo Villa and
Christian Mendoza.

Pioneer men's soccer is teaming up with the
Go4TheGoal Foundation for the final weekend of the season. Throughout both games, CSUEB event staff will be accepting donations to support Go4TheGoal in their efforts to improve the lives of children battling pediatric cancer.Â

WEEK IN REVIEW
The Pioneers are 3-11-2 on the season after losses to Chico State, 6-2 and Stanislaus State, 3-2 OT.

The entire game was filled with action and goals galore. Andrew McCombs recorded a hat-trick for Chico State as they took a 4-1 lead into the halftime break. The lone Pioneer goal before intermission came from senior
TJ Butler.

Butler (Weymouth, Mass.,) volleyed his shot into the top right hand corner from the middle of the box in the 18th minute of action. For Butler it was his second goal of the year.

In the second half the Wildcats would add two more goals to just one from the Pioneers. East Bay senior
Evan Sanchez (South Lake Tahoe, Calif.,) put in his team-leading six goal of the year in the 77th minute. Sanchez scored on a blast from the top of the box through the top of the goal off a pass from freshman Grant Lafleur (Brentwood, Calif.,).

Cal State East Bay won the shot advantage 14-11 but Chico State attempted one more shot at the goal than the Pioneers. The Wildcats took seven corner kicks to just three from CSUEB.

In the overtime loss to Stanislaus State, The Warriors Matthew Waldron converted on a penalty kick at 97:58 to help secure the victory for Stan State.

Despite being outshot 28-8 for game, the Pioneers lit up the scoreboard first with a goal from
TJ Butler (Weymouth, Mass) just three minutes into the match. Butler rebounded a shot off a
Jonathan Cuevas miss and headed in the shot.

If was Butler's third goal on the season and second consecutive game with a goal. For Cuevas, it was his third helper of the year. The Pioneers would take a 1-0 lead in halftime.

Stan State came out of the intermission of fire with goals in the 49th and 57th minutes to take a 2-1 advantage. East Bay would respond when junior
Jonathan Cuevas (Reno, Nev.) put in the equalizer header on a cross from senior
Evan Sanchez in the 59th minute. It was Cuevas' first career goal as a Pioneer and Sanchez' first assists of the season.

Junior
Omar Coronel logged nearly 70 minutes in the goal and compiled five saves. Sophomore
Carlos Moreno saw 28 minutes in the net and recorded three saves while allowing no goals.

SANCHEZ'S SIZZLING START
East Bay senior
Evan Sanchez (South Lake Tahoe, Calif.,) leads the Pioneers with six goals and 13 points so far on the season. Sanchez is tied for sixth place in the conference in goals. Sanchez was Cal State East Bay Male Athlete of the Week for (Sept. 4-10). He also has one assist on the season as well.

BUTLER'S BLIZZARD BURSTS
CSUEB senior
TJ Butler has been a bright spot for the Pioneer offense in conference play lately. Butler is second of the team with three goals after scoring in back-to-back games against Chico State and Stanislaus State. Butler is also tied for the team-lead with three assists.

DOUBLE-STUFFLING GOALIES
The East Bay goalie duo of sophomore
Carlos Moreno and junior
Omar Coronel have both been superb while splitting time in goal. Moreno leads the CCAA with 5.10 saves per game and is five in the conference with 51 total saves. He collected a career best 13 saves in the Pioneers match against Cal State L.A.

For Coronel, he leads the Pioneers with ten games played and seven starts. He leads CSUEB with a 852:08 total minutes in net and logged a career best five saves three spate times this season.

Both goalies have recorded one shutout apiece on the season.

SCOUTING UC SAN DIEGO
The Tritons enter the match with the Pioneers as the #18 ranked team in Division II after a 3-2 win over Sonoma State and a 3-2 non-conference victory over Cal State San Marcos. Uly de la Cal, Steven Ortiz, Jonathan Sabouri, Brett Jones and Nolan Mac are all tied for the team lead with three goals apiece. Uly de la Cal and Jeff Powers are both pacing the Tritons with four assists. Pedro Enciso leads UC San Diego with 37 saves and six shutouts on the season.
SCOUTING CAL STATE SAN MARCOS
The Cougars come into the game against the East Bay with a 2-10-2 overall mark on the season after a 2-1 loss to Humboldt State and 3-2 in a non-conference bout with UC San Diego. Victor Gonzalez leads Cal State San Marcos with four goals on the season. Alex Franklin is first on the Cougars with eight games played and eight games started in goal. Franklins has a team-leading 37 saves and one shutout.
