HAYWARD, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay women's cross country team opened the 2016 season on Saturday by finishing second out of three Division II teams at the San Francisco Invitational.
Seniors
Kelsey Lamb (23:36.6) and
Sarah Perrin (23:37.6) ran together to lead the way for the Pioneers in the 6k race. They finished in sixth and seventh place, respectively, among Division II runners. Overall, several CSUEB runners hit personal best times to start the Fall.
Newcomers
Megan Satterfield (24:25.0) and
Andrea Romero (24:27.0) placed 10th and 11th among DII runners in their debuts with East Bay.
Alondra Ortiz (26:09.3),
Taryn Stevenson (26:09.4), and
Suzanne Bateson (26:36.1) were the fifth, sixth, and seventh finishers for the Pioneers to round out their team score. The trio took 13th, 14th, and 15th among DII athletes.
"It was a huge day for the women," said head coach
Tony Nicolosi. "Two freshman really stepped up, Kelsey set a PR by almost a minute, and Sarah ran about as fast as she has since she was Freshman of the Year in the conference."
The Pioneer women have next week off before traveling south to compete at the UC Riverside Invitational on Sept. 17.
