GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- The Cal State East Bay women's golf team finished in 22nd place this week at the Mustang Intercollegiate, hosted by Western New Mexico at Palm Valley Golf Club. The Pioneers shot 331 (+43) in Saturday's second round to finish the 36-hole event at 650 (+74).Â
No. 8 Tarleton State, the highest ranked team in a 24-team tournament that included 13 of the nation's top 50, took home to the championship at 579 (+3). The Pioneers placed ahead of Regis and Holy Names in their penultimate 36-hole tournament of the spring.
Melissa Hosman was East Bay's top finisher, taking a share of 65th place with a total of 159 (+15) after shooting 83 (+11) in the final round. The senior was right in the middle of the 120-golfer field.
Lulu Huang carded the low round of the day for the Pioneers with an 80 (+8) and was the team's second finisher for the week at 162 (+18) overall. The sophomore ended up in a tie for 82nd place.
Hafsa Khan finished a stroke behind Huang at 163 (+19) with an 84 (+12) in the second round, putting her in a tie for 87th place.
Taylor Wyss carded 84 as well for East Bay's fourth team score and notched a share of 100th place overall at 166 (+22).
Ariel Caro shot 85 (+13) to close out the tournament, putting her in 107th place at 169 (+25).Â
The Pioneers now have a quick turnaround before getting back on the golf course. They return to northern California to compete in the Sonoma State Spring Invitational Apr. 4-5.
