East Bay Bats Stay Hot in Doubleheader Split

HAYWARD, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay baseball team split its doubleheader with conference rival Stanislaus State on Saturday at Pioneer Field, dropping the first game by a score of 8-7, before rallying for a 7-3 victory in game two.

The Pioneers improve to 10-4 overall, and 1-2 through the first three games of this first series of California Collegiate Athletic Asosciation (CCAA) play.

East Bay totaled 14 hits in the mornng game, which was a back-and-forth battle. Despite scoring in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings, the Pioneers weren't able to complete the comeback.

Thet bounced back in the afternoon game behind a solid start from Donavon Ramirez, who won to improve to 3-1, and Nick Sergi, who tossed three scoreless innngs in relief for his first save.

Five players had multipe hits in the second game, led by Joey Dice, who finished 3-for-3 with two RBI. 

Rudy Navarro went 5-for-8 in the doubleheader, while Michael Thomas notched a 4-for-7 performance.

The series concludes on Sunday back in Turlock with the fourth game between the two squads, scheduled for 12 p.m.
