SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.
-- The Cal State East Bay men's golf team posted its best finish of the 2015-16 season on Tuesday, taking second place at the Coyote Classic, hosted by Cal State San Bernardino at the par-71 Arrowhead Country Club.

The Pioneers were runners-up at 870 (+18), six strokes behind the team champion Sonoma State. It's the lowest three-round score for CSUEB this season. They shot 280 (-4) in the second round, which was the best round turned in by any team in the tournament.

East Bay got its Spring schedule off to a strong start, topping conference rivals Cal State San Bernardino, Stanislaus State, Cal State Dominguez Hills, and UC San Diego, as well as West Region foe Dixie State.

Junior Owen Hutchison led the way with a second-place individual finish. He shot 209 (-4) for the week, just two strokes behind the champion, Dixe State's Dane Nelson. He shot his second round of the week in the 60's on Tuesday with a 69 (-2) to close out the event.

Hutchison racked up 16 birdies for the week, the most of any golfer in the field of 71. His second round 65 (-6) was the lowest single-round score by anyone in the tournament.

Junior Chad Hall fired his best round of the week with an even-par 71 in Tuesday's final round. He notched a top-10 individual finish with a total score of 218 (+5).

Fellow junior Adam Stone also had a solid performance to place inside the top 20. The left-hander turned in a 74 (+3) in the third round to finish up at 221 (+8), putting him in a tie for 17th place.

The fourth CSUEB team score on Tuesday came from freshman Jonathan Mulvany, who shot 77 (+6) in the third round for a total of 230 (+17). He completed his first collegiate tournament with a share of 40th place overall.

After a strong showing on Monday, junior Jaskaran Sihota stumbled a bit with an 81 (+10) in the final round. His three-round score of 229 (+16) gave the Stanislaus transfer a share of 37th place in his first event as a Pioneer.

Next week, Cal State East Bay hosts its annual tournament, the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout, taking place Feb. 29 and Mar. 1 at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club in Vallejo, Calif.
