SAN FRANCISCO -- The Cal State East Bay women's cross country team competed at the San Francisco State Invitational on Friday afternoon, taking sixth place out of 14 teams at Golden Gate Park's Speedway Meadows.
With just two weeks remaining before the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships in Ontario, the Pioneers treated the meet as a tune-up. They posted a strong team finish and beat two CCAA teams as CSUEB's newcomers continue to impress.Â
Junior transfer
Dana Pollard was the top runner for East Bay in the late afternoon race, placing 25th with a 6k time of 23:29.2. Freshman
Megan Satterfield was the team's second finisher in 32nd place in 24:00.6
Senior
Kelsey Lamb (24:32.9), junior
Kandace Compton (24:33.3), and freshman
Andrea Romero (24:33.4) all ran together, taking 38th, 39th, and 40th place, respectively.
Senior
Sarah Perrin crossed the finish line in 47th place in 25:07.4, and sophomore
Taryn Stevenson was CSUEB's seventh contributor to the in 56th place with a time of 25:49.3. Freshman
Brittney Duquette ran 25:59.2, freshman
Alondra Castro Ortiz ran 26:13.2, and junior
Kenia Rendon finished in 27:53.7 to round out the afternoon.
Next Saturday, the Pioneers have one final tune-up before the CCAA Championships. They'll run at the Bronco Invitational, hosted by Santa Clara University at Baylands Park in Sunnyvale.
