SAN FRANCISCO -- The Cal State East Bay men's cross country team ran at the San Francisco State Invitational on Friday afternoon at Golden Gate Park, taking sixth place in a 12-team field of primarily Division II schools.
With just two weeks remaining before the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships in Ontario, the Pioneers held several of their top runners out of competition. But it was nonetheless a productive day for CSUEB, as the team's top six runners all finished fairly close to each other. They also managed to beat a handful of other teams, including conference foe Stanislaus State.Â
Senior
Irvin Parada was East Bay's top finisher as he looks to secure a spot on the squad for conference champions. Parada placed 23rd overall with a time of 27:11.4Â on the 8k course.
Esteban Leon and
Pedro Cruz finished together at 27:25.1 and 27:25.6, respectively, just ahead of
Jesus Leon (27:37.2) and
Israel Sotelo (27:37.3). That quartet placed 27th-30th among the 76 scored runners. Junior
Kyle Fetter was close behind in 36th place in 27:50.3.
Junior
Zach Kanlong was East Bay's seventh finisher in the scoring format and took 49th place with a time of 28:34.4. He was followed by senior
Noah Siegel (29:05.0), freshman
Luke Laehy (29:08.4), and sophomore
Cameron Olson (29:34.6) to round out the afternoon and the team's second meet of the season in San Francisco.Â
Next Saturday, the Pioneers have one final tune-up before the conference meet. They'll run at the Bronco Invitational, hosted by Santa Clara University at Baylands Park in Sunnyvale.Â
