Pioneers Place 8th, Morgan Finishes 9th at SF State Invitational

SAN FRANCISCO – The Cal State East Bay men's cross country team turned in a balanced effort at the SF State Invitational on Friday evening, finishing eighth overall in a competitive 14-team field stacked with some of the top Division II programs in the West Region.
 
Matthew Morgon once again led the way for the Pioneers, clocking a strong 25:10.5 to place 9th overall. The performance marked his first top-10 finish of the season while the time ranks 11th in program history for an 8K race. 
 
Christopher Valderrama was the next East Bay finisher, crossing in 26:09.7 for 31st place, while Phillip Logan followed close behind in 26:16.3 (34th). John Funderburg provided key depth in 26:54.5 (54th), and Osvaldo Segoviano rounded out the scoring five in 26:59.2 (57th).
 
As a group, the Pioneers posted a team score of 191 points and a total time of 2:11:47, averaging 26:21 per runner to edge UC Merced and San Francisco State for a top-eight team finish.
 
East Bay will race one more time before the CCAA Championships as they take to the course next Saturday for the Bronco Invitational hosted by Santa Clara
