MONMOUTH, Ore.. — The Cal State East Bay men's cross country team wrapped up its 2024 campaign with a gritty team performance at the NCAA Division II West Regional Championships on Saturday morning at Ash Creek Preserve. The Pioneers placed 16th overall in a highly competitive 10K field that featured several nationally ranked programs.
Matthew Morgon once again paced East Bay, clocking a personal-best time of 31:07.76 to finish 39th overall in the 163-runner field. Morgon's strong performance secured him the third fastest 10K time in program history.
Phillip Logan crossed the line next for East Bay, finishing 84th overall in 32:18.64, followed closely by
Dylan Baptista, who impressed with a 32:23.58 mark for 85th place. Christopher Valderrama added valuable points for the Pioneers, taking 92nd in 32:32.76, while
John Funderburg IV rounded out the scoring lineup in 102nd (32:45.50) with a personal-best performance.
Joaquin McGee (33:11.90, 120th) and
Brandon Simpson (33:43.12, 137th) also competed for East Bay.
As a group, Cal State East Bay tallied 402 points, tying Seattle Pacific but earning 16th place on a tiebreaker thanks to Morgon's top-40 finish. Chico State claimed the team title with 75 points, followed closely by Western Washington (88) and Cal Poly Pomona (97) to round out the top three.
