STANFORD, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay men's cross country team competed at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday morning along with over 3,400 runners from all three NCAA Divisions as well as the junior college and high school levels.
The Pioneer men placed 30th in the 8k collegiate race and 12th among Division II squads on a warm, gorgeous morning at the course on Stanford Golf Course.Â
For the third straight meet, freshman
Israel Sotelo was East Bay's top finisher, placing 163rd in the field of 283 college runners with a time of 26:19.1. In just his second career 8k race, Sotelo posted the second-fastest time by a Pioneer since the program was resurrected in 2009.
Sophomore
Zach Kanlong was the team's second finisher, taking 252nd place in 27:39.1. He was followed by
Kyle Fetter in 258th with a time of 27:50.4.
Junior
Irvin Parada took 263rd in 28:08.0, while freshmen
Noah Siegel (28:41.1) and
Cameron Olson (29:10.6) placed 270th and 275th, respectively. Senior
Orlando Ramirez rounded out East Bay's day with a 281st place finish in 29:43.9.
Next up, the Pioneers have a week off before competing in the San Francisco State on Oct. 9 at Golden Gate Park, the site of the 2015 CCAA Championships.
