ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay women's golf team finished with a share of 11th place out of 19 teams at the NCAA Division II West Regional Preview tournament, hosted by Sonoma State at the par-72 Foxtail Golf Club.
The Pioneers shot 323 (+35) in Tuesday's final round, carving seven strokes off their first-round score to finish at 653 (+77). They bested seven teams and ended up in a tie with Western Washington. No. 6 ranked Barry University captured the team championship at +32.
East Bay's top two golfers both improved their scores significantly in the second round, as junior
Melissa Hosman and senior
Linda Brown each carded 77 (+5). Hosman finished in a tie for 27th place with a total of 159 (+15), while Brown ended up at 163 (+19) with a share of 44th place in the overall field of 95.
Junior
Taelor Shweiki followed up her 82 on Monday with an 83 (+11) today, putting her in 50th place with a total score of 165 (+21).
The fourth Pioneer team score of the day came from freshman
Lulu Huang, who shot 86 (+14) and finished in a tie for 60th at 168 (+24) for the week.
Fellow first-year golfer
Taylor Wyss was just one stroke behind with an 87 (+15) on Tuesday, putting her in 71st place individually with a total of 171 (+27).
East Bay now has a week off from competition before traveling to Chico State for the final regular season tournament before the NCAA Super Regionals. The Wildcat Classic begins on Apr. 20 at Canyon Oaks Country Club in Chico.
