SEASIDE, Calif. -- Cal State East Bay senior
Linda Brown shot the lowest score on the course on Tuesday to finish as the runner-up at the 2015 Otter Invitational, hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay on a cool morning at Bayonet Blackhorse Golf Club.
Brown was tied for 16th in the individual standings after shooting a 78 (+6) in Monday's first round, but the defending West Region co-champion fired an even-par 72 to move all the way up to second place. She was two strokes better than the second-lowest round on Tuesday with a card that included four birdies and four bogeys.
Brown finished at 150 (+6) for the week, two strokes behind the individual medalist, Mailen Domec Chantry of Nova Southeastern, which also captured the team championship.
As a team, the Pioneers shot 333 (+45) in the second round and placed 10th out of 12 schools with a total of 667 (+91) for the week.
Freshman
Taylor Wyss carded CSUEB's second-lowest round with 86 (+14) on Tuesday to finish at 176 (+32), tied for 5th in the overall field of 74 golfers. Junior
Taelor Shweiki carved seven strokes off her first round total with an 87 (+15), putting her in 63rd place for the week at 181 (+37).
Junior
Melissa Hosman was East Bay's second overall finisher for the tournament at 171 (+27) in 50th place after shooting 88 (+16) in the second round. Freshman
Lulu Huang rounded out the team's performance with a 94 (+22) on Tuesday, putting her in a tied for 57th at 177 (+33).
Competing individually, junior
Michelle Wong carded 89 (+17) to finish the week at 180 (+36), and freshman
Sienna Starck shot 92 (+20) to finish at 182 (+38). The pair placed 61st and 64th, respectively, in the overall rankings.
The Pioneers now have a week off from competition before traveling to Arizona for the Western New Mexico Mustang Invitational.
