SAN ANTONIO -- Senior
Linda Brown recorded her fourth top-10 finish of the 2014-15 season to lead the Cal State East Bay women's golf team in the final round of the Saint Mary's Invitational. The Pioneers finished in a tie for 10th place out of 18 schools after shooting 330 (+42) as a team at Dominion Country Club on Tuesday.
Playing in extremely difficult conditions with high winds and temperatures in the 30's, East Bay posted a two-round total of 670 (+94). They finished tied with Southwest Oklahoma State, the No. 50 ranked team on the nation, and they were ahead of seven squads, including No. 46 Cameron University.
No. 18 Dallas Baptist captured the team championship at +49. No. 20 Saint Edward's (+64) placed second led by individual medalist Haley Haught (+5), while No. 30 West Texas A&M (+70) took third.
Brown carded 78 (+6) in the final round to finished tied for eighth place individually at 157 (+13). It's a strong start to the spring season for the San Leandro native, who has placed in the top-10 in all four tournaments of 2014-15 dating back to the fall.
Freshman
Taylor Wyss turned in the most impressive performance of her young career, placing 34th in the overall field of 92 golfers. She followed up an 85 on Monday with an 82 (+10) on Tuesday to finish at 167 (+23).
Junior
Melissa Hosman matched her first-round score with an 87 (+15) in the second round to finish with a total of 174 (+30), good for 55th place.
The fourth Pioneer team score of the day came from freshman
Lulu Huang, who carved nine strokes off her first-round total to post an 83 (+11), the lowest 18th-hole score of her collegiate career. Huang ended up tied for 60th at 175 (+31).
Junior
Taelor Shweiki rounded out East Bay's day with a 94 (+22) to finish tied for 76th at 183 (+39) overall.
Next up, the Pioneer women return to the great State of Texas for the Saint Edward's Invitational, which begins Feb. 23 at Grey Rock Golf Club in Austin.
