HURRICANE, Utah -- The Cal State Easy Bay women's golf team finished in 11th at this week's Dixie State Invitational after shooting 328 (+40) in the final round on Tuesday at the par-72 Sand Hallow Golf Course.
The Pioneers finished the two-round event at 652 (+76), topping Westminster and Holy Names. Point Loma took the team championship at +33, followed by Sonoma State (+43) in second and Cal State Monterey Bay (+45) in third. A trio of teams -- Cal Baptist, Chico State, and Western Washington -- were right behind them, tied for fourth at +46.
The Pioneer scores were fairly consistent from the first day or competition to the second.
Lulu Huang followed up her first-round 78 with a 79 (+7) on Tuesday to lead the team. She finished with a share of 22nd place in the overall field of 73 golfers at 157 (+13).
Freshman
Hafsa Khan ended up a stroke behind Huang at 158 (+14) in a tie for 25th place after carding 80 (+8) in the second rounds.Â
Sophomore
Taylor Wyss matched her 84 (+12) from Monday to finish at 168 (+24), tied for 56th overall. Right behind her was senior
Melissa Hosman, who totaled 169 (+25) and placed 58th after notching an 85 (+13) on Tuesday for the fourth team score.
Sienna Starck improved her first-round score by four strokes, shooting an 89 (+17). Her tournament total of 182 (+38) put her in 69th place. Individual competitor
Kelsi Valenzuela also turned in an 89 (+17) in the second round and finished with a share of 62nd at 172 (+28).Â
Next week, the Pioneers travel out of California yet again for the Western Washington Invitational at Bellingham Golf & Country Club on Oct. 12-13.Â
