BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Senior
Melissa Hosman posted a top-12 finish to lead the Cal State East Bay women's golf team in the final round of the Western Washington Invitational at Bellingham Golf and Country Club on Tuesday.
As a team, the Pioneers shot 325 (+33) in round two to finish the tournament at 652 (+68), good for ninth place in the 12-team field. Northeastern State ran away with the championship by 13 strokes.Â
Hosman was the only Pioneer golfer to break 80 this week at the par-73 course. She did it twice, following up Monday's 77 with a 78 (+5) in the final round. The Castro Valley native's total score of 155 (+9) gave her a share of 12th place in the overall field of 63 golfers.
Lulu Huang carved three strokes off her first-round score with an 80 (+7) on Tuesday, vaulting her into the top half of the field. The sophomore finished tied for 31st place with a total of 163 (+17).
Hafsa Khan also improved her score by three strokes in the second round, carding 83 (+10) to finish the week tied for 48th at 169 (+23).
Taylor Wyss turned in an 87 (+14) and ended up one stroke ahead of Khan in 47th place at 168 (+22) for the week.
The fourth Pioneer team score in the second round came from
Kelsi Valenzuela, who was seven strokes better than her Monday total. The junior transfer carded 84 (+11), giving her a share of 55th place overall at 175 (+26).Â
Next week, the East Bay women wrap up their fall schedule at the Sonoma State Fall Invitational, which takes place Oct. 19-20 at Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club.Â
