SAN DIEGO
-- Cal State East Bay senior Lauren McGlory captured first place in the triple jump finals to highlight the final day of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships, hosted by UC San Diego. The Pioneer women's team finished in a tie for eighth place with 22 points, marking the first time they've scored in the CCAA Championships as members of the conference.

McGlory is the first Pioneer ever to win a track and field event at the CCAA Championships, and she's the first CSUEB women to win a conference event since 1992.

The Pioneer women scored points in five events over two days, recording several personal bests. The team finished even with Humboldt State.

Sarah Perrin bettered her prelim time from Friday to score in the finals of the 1,500 Meters. The freshman crossed the wire in 4:45.44 to take eighth place.

Imani Heath performed well in both the 800 and 5,000 Meters for the Pioneers. She scored in the 800 finals with a seventh-place time of 2:18.33, and claimed 10th place in the 5,000 Meters in 18:51.35.

Both the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 Meter women's relay teams took eighth place.

"For our women, we wanted to score 21 points or more, and we did that," Pioneer head coach Ralph Jones said. "We wanted to get a conference champion, and we got that. We wanted to break a school record, and we did that. And we wanted to run some season-best performances, and seven women did that! We had several individuals step up and make finals who weren't supposed to on paper, and they capitalized in the finals and put themselves in position to score. I feel very good about the future of Pioneer track and field."

On the men's side, the Pioneers finished seventh overall with seven points, one shy of their total from 2013. Will Weekes nearly equaled his season-best as he scored points with a seventh-place finish in the 1,500 Meters. The senior posted a time of 4:04.62.

Daniel Damian placed 14th in the 3,000 Meter Steeplechase in 10:13.71, and ended his day with a 16th place finish in the 5,000 Meters. Damian was timed in 16:23.10 in the 5k.

The foursome of Anthony Gaines, Austin Brown, Alejandro Acosta, and Aaron Godine placed sixth in the 4 x 100 Meter Relay with a time of 45.09. The Pioneers finished seventh in the 4 x 400 Meter Relay.

"I was extremely proud of both teams as they accomplished almost every goal we set for them this weekend," Jones said. "Going into the meet, we had three goals: (1) equal or better the point total from last year; (2) have each individual run their best race of the year; (3) get as many season best times as possible. Our men nearly matched their total from the previous year, we had numerous individuals run season-best and lifetime-best times, and we were in every race we competed in."

Chico State captured both the men's and women's team championships.

The Pioneers will next compete in the San Francisco Last Chance meet, which is the final event before the NCAA Championships. East Bay has several provisional qualifying marks, and McGlory has already notched an NCAA automatic qualifying distance with her school-record triple jump. She'll jump for the national title in Allendale, Mich. on May 23-24.
