ROHNERT PARK, Calif.
-- The Cal State East Bay women's golf team claimed yet another tournament championship on Tuesday, their third of the season, as they won the Sonoma State Spring Invitational by 18 strokes. The Pioneers were led by individual champion Andrea Castellanos, who ran away from the field with an eight-stroke victory.

East Bay shot 304 (+16) on Tuesday at the par-72 Foxtail Golf Club to finish the event at 607 (+31). With their 303 on Monday, the Pioneers notched the two best team rounds of the tournament. The host Seawolves took second place at +49, followed by Cal State Monterey Bay and Newman in a tie for third at +56.

For Castellanos, it's her third individual medal of the 2013-14 season. She previously claimed championships at the Sonoma State Fall Invitational in October and the Cal State Monterey Bay Otter Invitational two weeks ago. She fired a 72 (E) in the second round to finish with a total of 142 (-2), which was eight strokes better than her closest competitor and the only score under par for the week.

Juniors Linda Brown and Arielle Swan-Smith both contributed heavily to the team victory, finishing tied for fifth place at 152 (+8). Brown carded a 77 (+5) in the final round, while Swan-Smith posted a 75 (+3).

Senior Ysabel Cabreira rounded out the CSUEB scoring with an 86 (+14) in the third round. Her total score of 167 (+23) put her in a tie for 37th in the overall field of 54 golfers.

The Pioneer women have competed in 10 tournaments since the start of the fall. They've won three team titles, and in six of the nine events, they've had the individual champion.

East Bay has now completed its regular season schedule and will await the NCAA regional rankings to find out whether the team will qualify for a berth in the NCAA West/South-Central Super Regionals in Mansfield, Texas.
