ResultsSAN FRANCISCO -- Freshman Sarah Perrin captured the 2-Mile Run to highlight Cal State East Bay's performance on the second day at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival on Saturday. Perrin, the 2013 CCAA freshman of the Year for cross country, defeated 18 runners with a time of 11:30.57 and bettered her nearest competitor by four seconds.
?"Sarah decided to go to the front and led by as many as 10 seconds during the race," Pioneer head track and field coach
Ralph Jones. "She won wire-to-wire, and it was a good race for her before the conference championships in May."
East Bay's 4 x 100 Meter Relay team turned in a fifth place effort. The quartet of Chanelle Norwood, Corryn Barney, Suzanne Bateson, and Lauren McGlory recorded a season-best time of 48.46.
"I switched up the order and it paid off," Jones noted. "We led after the first two legs and finished with a lot of energy. Our goal is to get under 48 seconds before the CCAA Championships."
Imani Heath placed 10th out of 33 runners in the 1-Mile Run with a time of 5:14.65.
Barney, competing in the 400 Meters for the first time this season, finished 12th out of 38 runners. She posted a top-12 CCAA time of 59.15. Bateson was 18th in 1:00.57, the 17th-best mark in the conference. Samira Foy nearly equaled her season best with a time of 1:01.96, good for 27th place.
In the sprints, Donnisha Brown had a season-best time of 13.26 to take 26th place honors in the 100 Meters. In the 200 Meters, Sydney Johnson finished 23rd out of 44 with a season-best mark of 26.83. Foy (27.34) and Brown (28.92) placed 31st and 40th respectively in the 200.
All told, the Pioneer women turned in a strong performance at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival. "We performed well both days," Jones said. "There were some good individual performances, it was a good weekend."
