SAN FRANCISCO – Phillip Cuevas had a pair of solid performances to lead the Pioneer men's track team on the second day of the San Francisco State Distance Carnival on Saturday.
Cuevas started the day by placing 15th out of 26 sprinters in a time of 11.47 in the 100 meters. He then competed for the first time in the 200 meters and ran the 16th-fastest time in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) this year. Cuevas finished the 200 in 22.65, earning 11th place honors.
"I was very pleased with Phillip's two sprints," Cal State East Bay head coach
Ralph Jones said. "I was encouraged by the way Phillip executed the phases of both races."
Anthony Gaines also competed in the 200 meters, taking 24th place in 23.23.
Austin Brown recorded a season-best mark of 23.74 to place 29th in the event.
Gaines doubled in the 400 meters and posted a season-best time of 51.95 to claim 29th place in the race and 22nd place in the CCAA. Brown also doubled in the 400 meters, taking 42nd in a time of 54.28.
"I felt the men had some solid performances both days," Jones said. "It turned out to be a very productive weekend for the team."
