SACRAMENTO, Calif. –
Imani Heath captured a victory in the 5,000 Meter run to highlight an impressive showing by the Pioneer women's track team at the Sacramento State Hornet Invitational on Saturday. The Pioneers finished 10th in the team standings with 24.5 points.
Heath established a personal best with a time of 18:06.77 to win the 5,000. Her mark is currently in the top-4 in the CCAA.
Sarah Perrin took sixth place in the race with a top-25 CCAA time of 19:18.21.
Vanessa Mares followed close behind in 7th place, recording a season-best mark of 19:19.62. All told, the Pioneers scored 19.5 points in the 5,000 Meters.

Ralph Jones said. "Sarah ran her first big race of the season, while Vanessa took 40 seconds off her previous best in the 5,000 Meters."
In the 800 Meters,
Robin McClinton took three seconds off her season-best, crossing the finish line in 2:15.72. McClinton, who posted the sixth-best time in the conference, claimed sixth place in the race. Camille Hansen also took three seconds off her season previous best, finishing 28th in 2:23.84. Sarah Perrin was the third Pioneer to finish in the 800 Meters, taking 31st place in 2:26.48.
In the 1,500 Meters,
Celina Vera took 20th with a time of 4:57.38, while Iris Martinez turned in a season-best mark of 5:30.79 to place 36th.
The Pioneers also performed well in the sprints. Lauren McGlory was 12th in the 100 Meters with a time of 12.58, and Chanelle Norwood was 21st in 13.18.
Corryn Barney ran 13th in the 200 Meters, posting a season-best and top-20 CCAA mark of 26.11. Suzanne Bateson took 22nd in 26.52.
The Pioneers had two competitors in the 400 Meters. Samira Foy was 24th with a top-16 CCAA time of 1:00.98, while Sydney Johnson finished 29th in 1:04.76.
Cal State East Bay finished fourth in the 4x100 and seventh in the 4x400 Meter Relays. The foursome of Alexis Perez, Sialei Manueleleui, Devynn Brennan, and Andrea Hernandez turned in a season-best time of 48.80 in the 4x100 Meter Relay.
"All the women are running well right now," Jones said. "Not only are we competing, but we're winning events. There are so many unsung heroes on this team. I'm so proud of this this group of women after four meets."
Next weekend, the Pioneers travel to Austin, Texas to run in the University of Texas relays.
