Pioneer Men Show Progress at Hornet Invitational

SACRAMENTO, Calif
. – The Cal State East Bay men's track team displayed solid progress with their performance at the Sacramento State Invitational on Saturday.

Leading the way for the Pioneers was Will Weekes in the 800 Meters. Weekes bested 34 runners to claim 15th place with a time of 1:57.63. Orlando Ramirez was 43rd in 2:08.14, while Jose Gonzalez-Mejia crossed the wire in 2:10.20 to take 46th place.

Gonzalez-Mejia doubled to claim 37th place honors in the 1,500 Meters in 4:19.58. Ramirez also doubled, recording a season-best time of 4:31.35, to finish in 43rd place.

Daniel Damian ran the 3,000 Meter Steeplechase for the first time this season, and recorded a time of 10:36.51 to take seventh place. Irvin Parada ran a season-best time of 16:50.72 to finish 28th in the 5,000 Meters.

In the sprints, Phillip Cuevas (11.49) and Michael Manalastas (12.84) placed 46th and 53rd, respectively, in the 100 Meters. Austin Brown posted a season-best mark of 23.97 to place 49th in the 200 Meters. Anthony Gaines was 32nd in the 400 Meters with a season-best time of 52.32.

"We had some PR's today," Pioneer head coach Ralph Jones said. "We're showing improvement as a team."

East Bay travels to Austin, Texas next weekend to run in the University of Texas Relays on Mar. 29.
