Box Score SAN FRANCISCO -- The Cal State East Bay volleyball team fell in straight sets on the road Friday night to San Francisco State (21-25, 14-25, 16-25). With the win, the Gators (12-12, 10-9 CCAA) take the season series, 2-1, over the Pioneers (9-16, 6-14 CCAA).
Senior
Amber Hall led the team with 10 kills, but she was the only Pioneer to reach double figures as the SF State out-hit East Bay, .333 to .144, for the match.
The Pioneers played their best volleyball in the first set, posting 15 of their 30 total kills along with a .333 attack percentage. CSUEB had an early advantage and held onto a 15-12 lead before the Gators went on a 7-1 run to grab a three-point lead. SFSU's Jaclyn Clark recorded a pair of kills down the stretch and the home team held on for a narrow victory in game one.
The Gators took control of the match after that, hitting .458 in the second set to pull away with a one-sided win. They led 11-10 early in the frame, but proceeded to win seven straight points and 14 of the last 19 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
After intermission, the Pioneers put up a good fight at the start of the third set. East Bay led 8-6 early, but once again SF State went on an extended scoring run, winning 11 straight points to pull away for good.
Freshman
Micah Hammond had five kills in the match and posted team highs with two blocks and a .571 hitting percentage. Senior
Samantha Bruno hit .313 and added six kills.
Setter
Ashia Joseph finished with 25 assists and six digs, while freshman
Jovan Turner and junior
Megan Johnson notched three kills apiece. Junior
Angie Maina led the way with 18 digs, and senior
Veronica Sanchez tallied five scoops.
East Bay has now wrapped up its road schedule in California Collegiate Athletic Association play, finishing the season with a record of 1-10 away from Pioneer Gymnasium.
The Pioneers return home next weekend to wrap up 2014 against Cal Poly Pomona and UC San Diego. The regular season finale on Saturday, Nov. 15 will be preceded by "Senior Night" festivities.
