Team Results | Individual ResultsBILLINGS, Mont. -- Junior Imani Heath led the Cal State East Bay women's cross country team to 23rd place at the NCAA Division II West Regionals on the 6k Amend Park course Saturday morning.
"The meet results were below our expectations, but there were some positive takeaways," said head coach Ralph Jones. "I was really proud of the effort by all five ladies."Heath finished the 2014 season as East Bay's top runner in every meet following her All-CCAA performance at the conference championships.
The Gilbert, Ariz. native ran the course in 23:26.22 to place 75th in the overall field of 167 runners representing 29 schools.
"Imani has led our team all year despite nursing a minor injury," noted Jones. "
She couldn't quite find the speed today to run with the top pack, but she still competed with pride and valor."Fellow junior
Celina Vera placed 129th with a time of 24:50.18. She was followed closely by sophomore
Camille Hansen, who ran 25:01.95 to take 132nd place.
Sophomore
Sarah Perrin (25:30.92) placed 141st, and Senior
Iris Martinez (27:25.76) took 153rd to close out the fall season.
"We dealt with some adversity this fall and faced several injury setbacks, but I'm proud of the way the team handled everything and always stayed positive," Jones added. "We have a good group of returners, and we're looking forward to the break to prepare for track season."
