Box Score HAYWARD, Calif. – Several members of the Cal State East Bay volleyball team played pivotal roles in Friday night's 3-1 victory over Cal State Los Angeles inside Pioneer Gymnasium. The Pioneers won the crucial points in the final two sets to earn a 25-21, 19-25, 26-24, and 27-25 win.

Cal State East Bay opened the match on a 7-0 scoring run off the serve of
Ashia Joseph. The Pioneers led comfortably throughout the first set and hit a match-high .367 in the frame behind four kill efforts from
Amber Hall and
Samantha Bruno.
The two senior attackers would combine for 26 kills on the night with Hall supplying seven on only 11 attempts in the fourth and final set. Hall finished with her eighth double-double of the season after collecting a team-high 15 kills along with 10 digs.
East Bay's Joseph led all players with 39 assists and four aces. She had her choice of options throughout the match with freshmen
Jovan Turner connecting for nine kills,
Kiani Rayford adding eight, and
Micah Hammond posting seven.
"I cannot say enough about our freshmen group. Kiani backed up her outstanding performance on Tuesday with another excellent match. Jovan and Micah each hit over .450 which is outstanding," praised Spagle.
Libero
Angie Maina led all players with 23 digs in helping set up the Pioneer offense. Friday was her fifth straight 20-plus dig effort.
"Angie had a brilliant match and controlled the backcourt all night.
Brandi Brucato and
Aimee Kyed were also excellent off the bench and played contributing factors in tonight's result," complimented Spagle.
Cal State L.A. was one point away from forcing a fifth and deciding set leading 24-23 in the fourth. Hall came up with one of her seven kills in the frame and finished hitting .636 in the match clinching set.
"Amber caught fire in the fourth set and gave a tremendous boost to our offense. Sam and Ashia added a tremendous amount of poise and leadership on the court," added Spagle.
Cal State L.A. (12-7, 10-6 CCAA) was paced by Kymberly Silveyra with 18 kills. Iona Lofrano and Loreal Carter added 14 and 12 kills, respectively. Kelsey Molnar finished with 36 assists in the loss.
Cal State East Bay (8-14, 5-12 CCAA) will host Cal State Dominguez Hills (2-18, 1-15 CCAA) on Saturday, Nov. 1.
