HAYWARD, Calif. -- Following its most impressive weekend of the season, the Cal State East Bay volleyball team is back in action for a midweek match at home. The Pioneers look to even up their season series with Cal State Monterey Bay when they welcome in the Otters on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.

It's also "Taco Tuesday" at Pioneer Gym, and the first 50 fans in attendance will receive free tacos from Taco Bell.

Cal State East Bay snapped its eight-match losing streak in emphatic fashion last weekend. They started by blowing out Cal State Stanislaus in three sets on Friday night, holding the Warriors to an .033 hitting percentage. The following night, the Pioneers played their best all-around match of the season, outlasting Chico State in four sets. They hit .293 as a team -- their highest percentage of the season in CCAA play -- and racked up 73 digs. Amber Hall led the way with 19 kills and a .349 attack percentage, and Samantha Bruno added 11 kills. Libero Angie Maina had a career high with 28 digs.

PIONEER POINTS
Hall currently ranks fifth in the California Collegiate Athletic Association in scoring, averging 3.46 kills per set.

Bruno is also in the top-20 overall at 2.70 kills per set. She's already Cal State East Bay's all-time leader in total blocks with 252 for her career, and this weekend she moved into 10th place all-time in career kills with 664. 

Maina now leads the team in digs for the season (200), and she ranks eighth in the CCAA with 4.13 digs/set in league play.

Ashia Joseph ranks in the top-10 in the CCAA in both assists (8.27 per set) and service aces (0.33 per set). She's also second on the Pioneers with 174 digs this season. With 73 assists last weekend, she's up to 1,616 for her Pioneer career, which ranks seventh in program history. She needs 183 more this season to move into sixth place.

OUTLOOK ON THE OTTERS
Cal State Monterey Bay split its matches at home last weekend, beating Cal State Stanislaus (3-0) and falling to Chico State (3-1). The Otters are barely edging out the Pioneers in team hitting percentage, .192 to .190, for the season. They're fourth in the CCAA in blocks, led by middle blockers Janai Johnson (1.09 blocks/set), DJ Gresham-Ryder (0.74 blocks/set), and Victoria Clardy (0.59 blocks/set). Libero Rachel Cookus is third in the league in digs (4.82/set), while Jessica Malcolm (3.01 kill/set) and Julia Ashen (2.75 kills/set) are the top Otter attackers. The Pioneers are 3-6 against Monterey Bay since joining the CCAA in 2010, and they lost 3-0 in Seaside on Oct. 1.
