ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- Cal State East Bay senior
Linda Brown notched another top-10 finish on Tuesday following the final round of the 2014 Sonoma State Fall Invitational. The reigning NCAA Division II West Region Co-Champion shot 77 (+5) in the second round to place sixth individually with a total of 150 (+6).
As a team, the Pioneer women finished seventh out of 10 squads. They posted a score of 320 (+32), giving them a two-round total of 637 (+61). East Bay finished 38 strokes behind the champions, Saint Edwards (+23). Western Washington (+34) took second place, followed by Chico State (+37) in third, Sonoma State (+42) in fourth, Cal State Monterey Bay (+52) in fifth, and Academy of Art (+53) in sixth.
Brown finished in the top-10 for the second straight week and ended up six strokes behind the individual medalist, Saint Edward's Haley Haught (E). Junior
Melissa Hosman also played well, posting her first top-20 finish of the season. She shot 80 (+8) on Tuesday to finish tied for 20th overall at 157 (+13).
A pair of Pioneer newcomers turned in the exact same two-round total to finish tied for 34th. Junior
Taelor Shweiki carded 81 (+9) in the second round, and freshman
Taylor Wyss fired an 82 (+10). Both golfers improved from their first-round scores, and both finished at 165 (+21) for the tournament.
Freshman
Lulu Huang shot 90 (+18) for the second straight round, ending up in 50th place at 180 (+36) in her first collegiate event. Sophomore
Michelle Wong carved three strokes off her Monday total with an 84 (+12) in the second round. Competeing unattached, she finished at 171 (+27) in 44th place.
Cal State East Bay will take a cross-country flight next week for their final tournament of the Fall. The men's and women's teams will both compete in the Lenoir-Rhyne Rock Barn Collegiate Invitational at Rock Barn Golf Club in Hickory, North Carolina. The course was the site of last year's Women's NCAA Division II Championships, where Brown placed 23rd, and it will play host the Men's Division II Championships in May.
