Box Score ARCATA, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay volleyball team lost in three sets on the road Thursday night to Humboldt State (21-25, 17-25, 16-25). It was the first defeat ever for the Pioneers in Lumberjack Arena as members of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), and it marks the team's seventh straight loss overall.
The Jacks (12-4, 9-3 CCAA), who have now won eight of their last nine matches, posted a remarkable .406 team attack percentage with 48 assists on 49 kills and just eight attack errors. CSUEB (5-12, 2-10 CCAA) hit .178 as a team and did not record a block on the defensive side.
It wasn't quite so one-sided in the first set, however. After Humboldt opened the match with a 13-5 lead, the Pioneers rallied back.
Kiani Rayford notched three kills as East Bay made a late 10-4 run to pull within two points at 23-21. But the Jacks called a timeout, then they came out and won the final two points.
The home team took control after that. The Pioneers began game two with an early 9-7 advantage, but HSU made a 5-0 run and never looked back. The Jacks made just one attack error in each of the last two sets, posting attack percentages of .515 and .500.
