TURLOCK, Calif.
--- Tremendous individual performances by Will Weekes and Daniel Damian helped the Pioneer men's track team score eight points on the final day of the CCAA Track and Field Championships, hosted by Cal State Stanislaus, on Saturday.

Weekes earned fifth place honors and four points for the Pioneers in the 800 Meters, finishing the race in 1:56.61. “Will accomplished a lot on Friday to reach the finals,” Pioneer Head Coach Ralph Jones said. “In today's race, he performed well, and came close to being on the podium.”

Damian scored for the Pioneers with an eighth-place finish in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase. He recorded a personal best and the seventh-fastest time in Cal State East Bay history, running 10:06.43. Damian defeated four runners to take eighth place.

“We told Daniel that times don't matter and anything can happen in the CCAA Championships,” Jones said. “He took our advice and got himself in good position to score the last point and earn All-CCAA honors.”

The foursome of Weekes, Gavin Ramos, Orlando Ramirez, and Anthony Gaines concluded a successful meet for the Pioneer men with a sixth-place finish, good for three points, in the 4 x 400 Meter Relay. Their final time was 3:34.0. “I felt the guys performed well running their first relay of the season,” Jones noted.

On Friday, Weekes led a trio of Pioneer runners in the 800 Meters, reaching the finals with a seventh-place finish. Weekes established a personal best and ran the fifth-fastest time in Pioneer track history of 1:55.49. Ramos missed qualifying by two places, posting a season-best time of 1:56.19 in the prelims, while Ramirez was clocked in 2:11.97.

The Pioneers received a solid effort from sprinters Gaines and Riles Ngana in the 100 Meters. Gaines finished with a season-best time of 11.34. Ngana, running the 100 Meters for the first time this season, followed close behind Gaines and finished in 11.46. Later, Gaines came within four places of reaching the finals of the 200 Meters, posting a time of 23.39.

The men concluded Friday with a 15th-place finish by Jose Gonzalez-Mejia in the 10,000 Meters. Gonzalez completed the 10k course in 34:14.61, establishing a personal best.

All told, the Pioneer men's track team scored eight points, their best showing ever in the CCAA Track and Field Championships.

“This season was about growth and the ability for our men to compete at the CCAA level,” Jones added. “Our guys ran their best and wanted to reach the podium. Following our performance in the championships, I felt we made huge strides as a track program.”

On the women's side, sprinter Chelsea Ingram doubled in the 100 and 200 Meter Prelims. In the 100 Meters, Ingram nearly equaled her season best, running a time of 14.15. She then ran 30.45 in the 200 Meters. In the 800 Meter prelims, Shatahlai Wright nearly established a season best with a time of 2:42.30.
