Celina Vera captured the 5000 meter B section race, while
Chelsea Ingram recorded a personal record in the 100 meters to highlight a strong overall performance by the Pioneer women's track team at the Woody Wilson Relays on Saturday.
Vera crossed the finish line in the 5000 meters with a winning time of 18:46.06. She defeated a field of 10 runners that included two Humboldt State competitors and five Division I participants.
“I was very happy Vera won the race,” Pioneer head coach
Ralph Jones said. “It was great how she handled the windy conditions.”
Ingram placed eighth out of 11 runners with a season best of 14.18 in the 100 meters.
“Chelsea really executed the middle portion of the race,” Jones said. “She's getting better every week.”
Imani Heath placed eighth among four-year collegiate runners and 11th out of 25 overall with a time of 2:21.34 in the 800 meters. Shatalai Wright also competed in the 800, running a season-best time of 2:42.53.
The Pioneers' next meet will be the CCAA Track Championships on May 2-4.
