DAVIS, Calif. -– The Pioneers established some impressive personal records at the Chabot and Woody Wilson Meets on April 19-20. East Bay competed at two different locations Friday night, and both meets produced record performances.
Freshman
Gavin Ramos competed at the Chabot LPC meet, running the 800 meters. With a strong finishing kick in the final 200 meters, Ramos came from six places down to take 2nd overall with a personal record, season best time of 1:58.66. That ranks top-20 in the conference and stands as the eighth-best time in school history.
“I felt the race gave Gavin a lot of confidence in himself,” Pioneer head coach
Ralph Jones said. “I'm glad he got a good race in before the conference championships.”
Orlando Ramirez also competed for the Pioneers in the 800 meters, running a time of 2:10.
Jose Gonzalez-Mejia raced at the Woody Wilson twilight meet hosted by UC Davis on Friday night. He ran a personal-best time of 34:17 in the men's 10,000 meters.
On Saturday at the Woody Wilson Relays,
Anthony Gaines posted a seasonal best time of 11.43 to finish 10th among all four-year collegiate runners and 13th of 19 overall in the 100 meters.
“Anthony continues to get better at the right time,” Jones said.
Daniel Damian was clocked in 16:29.57 to place 7th out of 15 overall runners in the 5000 meters.
Will Weekes took ninth place out of 24 runners in 1500 meters. Weekes, who ran 4:04.87, defeated three runners from Humboldt State.
“Will is pretty competitive in his races,” Jones said. “He ran a good race today under very windy conditions.”
The Pioneers will now prepare for the CCAA Track Championships on May 2-4.
