CHICO, Calif. -– The Pioneer track teams had a good outing on the opening night of the Chico State Twilight and Distance Carnival on Friday.

On the women's side, Imani Heath nearly equaled her season-best mark, posting a time of 2:18.11 in the 800 meters. Heath finished 10th among four-year collegiate runners and 12th out of 24 competitors. She defeated three runners from CCAA rivals Humboldt State, Santa Clara, and the hosts Chico State.

On the men's side, Daniel Damian finished fifth out of 12 runners in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Damien, who defeated one runner from Humboldt State, clocked in 10:09.94.

Jose Gonzalez-Mejia took 54th place in the 5000 meters with a time of 16:35.99.

On Saturday, the Pioneers will have seven athletes competing in five events on the second night of the Distance Carnival.
