HAYWARD, Calif. – It's been over a decade since Pioneer Stadium hosted a track meet, but on March 9, the CSUEB men's track team hosted San Jose State in a collegiate dual meet. With non-traditional events contested, the Pioneers were victorious in every event they competed in.
In the 600 meter run, nine athletes competed for the men.
Gavin Ramos out-sprinted the competition and crossed the line first in a time of 1:24.43.
The next event the Pioneers competed in was the 1200 meter run, a race equivalent to three laps around a 400m track. East Bay swept this event taking the first three places. The trio was led by
Will Weekes (3:18.9) Daniel Damien (3:20.13) and Jose Mejia- Gonzalez (3:21.12).
The men concluded a successful day with a first place finish in the distance medley relay. Ramos gave the team an early lead, and handed the baton to
Anthony Gaines who extended the advantage after San Jose State dropped the baton. Gaines passed to
Orlando Ramirez, who brought it to Will Weeks on the anchor leg. The team was victorious in a time of 12:09.96.
"Today was an important day for our program, our athletes, and the local track and running community,” Pioneer Head Coach
Ralph Jones said. “Our athletes competed superbly and took a lot of pride in competing at their home track.”
The next Meet for the Pioneers will be the Hornet Invitational on March 16.
