Box Score HAYWARD, Calif. --- The Cal State East Bay volleyball team extended its win streak to four with a 3-1 victory over visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday night (25-16, 23-25, 25-13, 25-22). With the win, the Pioneers (11-14, 7-10 CCAA) improve their home record to 9-4 and get some payback against the Toros (8-17, 1-16 CCAA), who picked up their only conference win against East Bay earlier in the season.

The Pioneers hit .348 as a team, their best mark of the season in CCAA play. They bested the Toros in total kills (56 to 46) and committed fewer attack errors (24 to 17). East Bay also racked up 10 services aces, five of which came from Katie Allen. The junior had an outstanding performance, hitting .552 with 19 kills to lead the team.

"Katie had a monster weekend," said head coach Jim Spagle. "She dominated on the court, both attacking and serving."

Samantha Bruno was also impressive for the second straight night, totaling 11 kills with a .563 hitting percentage. Amber Hall, Kitona Offord, and Suzy Ni Xu each notched eight kills.

Setter Ashia Joseph tallied 52 assists in the four sets, and Pioneer libero Veronica Sanchez led all players with 15 digs. Defensive specialist Angie Maina came off the bench to scoop out six balls.

"Sam Bruno was dynamic this evening with 11 kills in 16 swings," added Spagle."Angie and Hannah Bell brought some real stability to our defense, as well. Veronica, despite playing hurt due to a collision with the bleachers, showed the heart of a tiger tonight. And Ashia ran our offense beautifully!"

The Pioneers got off to a great start in the match, winning the first set without ever trailing. Allen kicked things off with three straight aces, which got the crowd going immediately. East Bay continued to take advantage of CSUDH errors and grabbed a 14-8 lead before the Toros made a mini-rally and cut their deficit to three. East Bay finished the first set strong, however, as Xu slammed home back-to-back kills and the team won the final five points.

Whatever momentum they had from a decisive win in the first game, the Pioneers lost it in the second. East Bay led by as many as four, but this time, the Toros didn't allow them to pull away. Dominguez held the Pioneers to a .167 attack percentage and forced seven errors, ultimately rallying from a 21-20 deficit and winning five of the last seven points to even the match.

East Bay came back strong after intermission, and Allen really started to take over the match. They jumped ahead 4-0 and were able to extend their lead to 14-6 before the Toros called a timeout. The Pioneers kept their feet on the gas pedal, however, not allowing the visitors to make a run. Hall had three kills down the stretch as the home team cruised to a 12-point victory.

The Pioneers closed out the match impressively, continuing their red-hot play on the attack. The score of the fourth frame was much tighter because Dominguez Hills hit .419 as a team, but East Bay was nearly unstoppable, posting a .577 attack percentage and racking up 17 kills in the set. The score was back-and-forth throughout as the Pioneers clung to a narrow lead. After the Toros scored to make it 23-21, Allen notched the final two points for East Bay to seal the victory.

This was the first home Saturday win for the Pioneers during conference play this season. Next up, the team will hit the road for a midweek match against Cal State Monterey Bay on Tuesday night.
