11/23/2013 9:04:00 PM

Box Score ROHNERT PARK, Calif. --- The Cal State East Bay volleyball team closed out the 2013 season on Saturday night with a 3-0 loss (25-13, 25-11, 25-9) at No. 15 Sonoma State (25-5, 18-4 CCAA). The Pioneers (11-19, 7-15 CCAA) finish the season on a five-match losing streak, although three of those were to teams ranked in the top 15 in the nation.

The Seawolves, currently in second place in the CCAA, will head into NCAA Regionals on high note after dominating from start to finish on this night. Sonoma State had 50 kills in three sets with just seven attack errors for a .448 attack percentage. The Pioneers managed 16 kills and hit just .044 as a team. The Seawolves also had a substantial edge in digs, 55-32.

Suzy Ni Xu led the Pioneers with five kills. Kitona Offord finished with three, while Samantha Bruno, Katie Allen, Hannah Bell, and Brittany Dominguez notched two each. Bruno added three total blocks.

Ashia Joseph had 13 assists, and Veronica Sanchez led the way with 14 digs.

Conference player of the year candidate Caylie Seitz had 17 kills and hit .500 to lead Sonoma State.

The score wasn't particularly close in any of the three sets. SSU jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the opening frame, and then used a 9-0 run to stretch their lead out to 19-6. The teams then traded points until the Seawolves reached 25.

In the second set, it was fairly tight early as Sonoma committed three service errors. However, leading 10-7, the home team went on a 15-4 run to close out a set in which the Pioneers had just three total kills.

It was more of the same in the last game. The score was tied 6-6 after kills by Allen and Dominguez, but then the Seawolves won 19 of the next 22 points to put the match away. As a team, they hit .609 in the second set and .593 in the third set.

Bell scored the final two points of the season for East Bay in her final match as a Pioneer. Congratulations to Bell, Allen, Bruno, Offord, Dominguez, and Xu on fine careers at CSUEB.
