HAYWARD, Calif. --- The Cal State East Bay volleyball team hits the road this weekend to play its final two matches of the 2013 season. On Friday, the Pioneers (11-17, 7-13 CCAA) visit San Francisco State looking to avenge their loss to the Gators back in October. The following night, East Bay will try to sweep the season series against 15th-ranked Sonoma State. Both matches are set to begin at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live by CSUEB's respective opponents.

WEEKEND RECAP
The Pioneers had a tough task for their last home matches of the year last weekend as they took on the top two teams in the CCAA in No. 14 Cal State San Bernardino (which has since clinched its eighth consecutive conference title) and No. 12 UC San Diego. On Friday, the Coyotes roared into Pioneer Gym, hit .327 as a team, and made quick work of the home squad in three sets.

East Bay played much better on Saturday against the Tritons, but ultimately came up short in a four-set loss. The night started with an emotional pre-match ceremony to honor the six Pioneer seniors. It looked like an upset was brewing when East Bay came out and claimed the first set 25-18, holding UCSD to .061 hitting. However, the Tritons righted the ship and outlasted the Pioneers 25-23 in both the second and third frames. The Pioneers had a chance in both, but couldn't come up with the winning points. Four CSUEB players notched double-digit kills in the loss: Samantha Bruno (12), Suzy Ni Xu (11), Kitona Offord, (11), and Amber Hall (10).

FINISHING STRONG
Heading into the final weekend, the Pioneers are fifth in the CCAA with a .218 team attack percentage. They rank second in service aces, but last in digs and 10th in blocks.

Individually, Veronica Sanchez leads the conference averaging 5.42 digs per set in CCAA play. Katie Allen paces all CCAA players, scoring an average of 0.42 service aces per set. Ashia Joseph ranks fifth among setters with a 10.17 assist average. Bruno is seventh with a .317 hitting percentage from her middle blocker position.

The Pioneers don't have any student-athletes in the conference's top-20 in kills, but they have spread out their scoring, with five players averaging over two kills per set: Xu (2.66), Allen (2.37), Hall (2.27), Bruno (2.27), and Offord (2.10).

SCOUTING SF STATE
The Gators came into Hayward back in October and swept the Pioneers in straight sets despite 10 kills each from Bruno and Xu. SF State racked up 11 blocks in that match. For the season, they're hitting just .190 as a team, but rank sixth in the conference in points per set. Meagan Wright, Melissa Horton, and Jaclyn Clark are the Gators' leading attackers, and Jacquie Brice is among the CCAA's top setters. SF State has dropped four of its last five matches.

SCOUTING THE SEAWOLVES
East Bay picked up its most impressive victory of the season over Sonoma State back in October thanks to a 19-kill performance by Allen. However, the No. 15 Seawolves have won seven of their last eight matches, including handing Cal State San Bernardino its only loss in conference play. They lead the CCAA in points, kills, hitting percentage, and aces. SSU is led by attackers Kelsey Hull, Madelyn Densberger, and Player of the Year candidate Caylie Seitz (3.99 kills/set, .328 pct.)
