Box Score SAN FRANCISCO Calif. – The Pioneer women's soccer team battled hard for 90 minutes, but came up on the short end of a 2-1 decision to San Francisco State on September 28.
With the defeat, the Pioneers are 1-4-1 in CCAA play and 3-4-1 for the season. San Francisco State improves to 2-4 in the CCAA and 4-4 overall. The Gators outshot the Pioneers 24-11, including 10-5 on goal. The Pioneers'
Shianna Falk ended with five shots, including two on goal. Pioneer goalkeeper
Jamie Botteon played a solid game in the net turning away eight Gator shots on goal.
“This wasn't one of our better performances,” Pioneer coach
Amy Gerace said. “I didn't think we played our style of play and mentally we lost our focus a bit.”
San Francisco State had two shots in the first six minutes, but was unable to score.
The Pioneers scored first at 15:09 when
Ariana Gordon converted a shot from five yards out for her second goal of the season.
Zuly Diaz and Falk assisted on the goal. Falk had a shot turned away by Gator goalkeeper Annicia Jones in the 19th minute.
Following a blocked shot attempt, the Gators evened the score in the 22nd minute on a goal by Stephanie Vanni. The Gators continued the offensive attack putting up three shots including the go-ahead goal in the 31st minute. Elizet Ceja scored her second goal of the season with an assist from Vanni.

Shannon Fontes had a shot go wide in the 38th minute . San Francisco State responded with three unanswered shots the following four minutes. Seconds later,
Kara Yamamoto had a shot saved by Jones.
East Bay came out aggressive in the second half, led by Falk with three shots in the first 15 minutes. The Gators countered with three unanswered shots, but were unable to increase their lead.
Botteon came up huge for the Pioneers turning away four Gator shots on goal in a four-minute span.
Eugenie Foote, tied for team honors with three goals scored, had a shot attempt saved by Jones in the 81st minute. The Pioneers final scoring opportunity came in the 86th minute when a shot by Foote was blocked by a Gator defender.
“Despite the result, I expect we'll be able to reorganize and be prepared to play Cal State Monterey Bay on September 30,” Gerace said.
The Pioneers will play at Cal State Monterey Bay on September 30 to conclude a six-game CCAA road trip. The game will begin at 2:00 p.m.
