Box Score OAKLAND, Calif. – Seven different players scored a goal as the Pioneer women's soccer team blanked Mills College 8-0 in a non-conference game on October 15.
The victory improves the Pioneers overall record to 6-7-1. East Bay is 4-0 in non-conference games this season. Mills College is 0-12 overall. Cal State East Bay outshot Mills College by a 49-2 margin, including a 23-0 advantage on goal.
Kelsey Lamb led the Pioneer offensive attack with two goals.
Nina Cefalo had eight shots and scored her first goal of the season.
Danielle Cummings came off the bench to put up five shots including her first goal of the season. Mills goalkeepers Tayla Muise and Shauna Corbitt combined to save 16 shots.
East Bay opened the scoring in the fifth minute when
Shannon Fontes scored her first goal of the season.
Claudia Luna was credited with the assist. Three minutes later,
Kelley Brown recorded her first goal of the season with an assist from
Kara Yamamoto. Luna, with another assist from Yamamoto, scored her first goal of the season in the 11th minute.
The Pioneers made it 4-0 when Cummings scored an unassisted goal in the 38th minute. East Bay took a 5-0 halftime lead when Lamb scored with an assist from
Sydney Ruegsegger as time expired.
Lamb scored her second goal of the game in the 50th minute as the Pioneers increased their lead to 6-0. Three minutes later, East Bay made it 7-0 as Eugenie Foote scored her fourth goal of the season.
East Bay concluded the scoring in the 86th minute on an unassisted goal by Cefalo.
The Pioneers resume CCAA play on October 19 with a road game at Cal Poly Pomona.
