SEASIDE, Calif. - The Cal State East Bay women's golf team took 20th in a field of 22 teams at the Lady Otter Spring Invitational hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay at the Black Horse Golf Club in Seaside on March 28-29. The Pioneers shot a 111-over-par 695 as a team, while Nova Southeastern University took the team title with a 13-over-par 597.
East Bay was paced by
Katie Devine's 22-over-par 168, which was good for a tie for 71st out of 116 golfers. Devine carded the Pioneers' best individual round with an 83 (+10) on day two.
Deanna Tyndall tied for 91st with a 27-over 173.
Andrea Castellanos was just behind Tyndall with a two-round score of 174, tying for 97th overall. Castellanos showed a six-stroke improvement from her round-one 90, carding an 11-over 84 to close out the tournament on Tuesday. Castellanos joined Tyndall and Devine as the three East Bay golfers to lower their scores in the second round.
Christina Walker and
Alicia Haness rounded out the Pioneer contingent, finishing tied for 109th and in 112th in the individual standings. Walker posted a 34-over 180, while Haness carded a 187 (+41) in the two-round invitational.
Cal State East Bay beat out both Southwestern Oklahoma State and Redlands, while finishing just eight strokes off of 19th-place UC Santa Cruz and 26 strokes behind 18th-place Chico State.
The Pioneers return to action April 11 when they kick off their final tournament of the 2011 spring campaign – the Sonoma State Spring Invitational at Fountaingrove Golf and Athletic Club in Santa Rosa.
