HAYWARD, Calif. - The Pioneer women's soccer team scored two second half goals to force overtime in their match against North Division leader Sonoma State on Sunday. The Seawolves prevailed 3-2 on a goal in the 94th minute of overtime.
With the victory, Sonoma State remains in first place in the CCAA North Division with an 8-3-1 record. The Seawolves are 8-5-1 for the season. Cal State East Bay stands at 4-7-1 in CCAA play and 5-8-1 overall.
Sonoma State opened the scoring in the 13th minute as Ashley Martin scored her first goal of the season with an assist from Gretel Amman.
The Pioneers had three shot attempts in the next 13 minutes including two shots by
Claudia Luna.
Elena Catania scored her second goal of the season to give the Seawolves a 2-0 lead in the 61st minute.
“We didn't start off well possessing the ball,” Pioneer coach
Amy Gerace said. “Sonoma St is a good team and we weren't adapting well to their pressure.”

Kara Yamamoto had a shot turned away by Sonoma State goalkeeper Alexis Sciacqua.
The Pioneers got on the scoreboard in the 74th minute when
Shianna Falk scored an unassisted goal. For Falk, it was her third goal of the season.
In the 76th minute, the Pioneers tied the game when Eugenie Foote put in her team leading fifth goal. Falk was credited with the assist.
Alyssa Rodriguez had a shot saved by Sciacqua in the 83rd minute.
The Seawolves Ashley Martin had a shot go wide in the final minute of regulation.
Sara Studer converted a shot just outside the box in the 94th minute to give the Seawolves the hard earned victory.
“Once we settled in, we did a better job connecting passes and being more dangerous in the attack,” Gerace said. “I was happy to see us stay focused enough to comeback and tie the game.
Shianna Falk had a great game. Her work rate was contagious and she contributed to both goals.”
Sonoma State out-shot Cal State East Bay by an 18-13 margin. Foote led the Pioneers with three shots including two on goal. Pioneer goalkeeper
