ALAMEDA, Calif. — Cal State East Bay women's soccer earned its first victory of the 2026 season Sunday afternoon, defeating Dominican 4-2 at Pioneer Stadium for Jessica Clinton's first win as head coach of the Pioneers.
East Bay wasted little time taking control, scoring three times over the opening 17 minutes.
Kella Folkerts started the scoring in the eighth minute. Kaylie McKee and Lillian Morris combined to set up Folkerts, who found the net to give the Pioneers an early 1-0 advantage.
Less than two minutes later, Taylor Hodges doubled the lead with a goal in the 10th minute.
The Pioneers continued their quick start in the 17th minute. Hodges and Zeena Grewal combined to set up McKee, who finished the opportunity to give East Bay a 3-0 advantage less than 17 minutes into the match.
Dominican got one back in the 31st minute, sending East Bay into halftime with a 3-1 lead.
The Pioneers restored their three-goal advantage early in the second half.
Folkerts struck again in the 57th minute, finishing off an assist from Hodges for her second goal of the afternoon and a 4-1 East Bay lead.
Dominican added its second goal in the 69th minute, but East Bay held the Penguins off the board the rest of the way to secure the 4-2 victory.
Folkerts led the Pioneers with two goals on four shots, putting all four attempts on target. The two-goal performance extended her scoring streak to three consecutive matches.
Hodges had a hand in three of East Bay's four goals, finishing with a goal and two assists. McKee recorded a goal and an assist, while Grewal and Morris each added an assist.
East Bay finished with 13 shots and put nine on goal, while Dominican recorded 12 shots with five on target.
Bianca Avila made the start in goal and recorded one save in the opening 45 minutes. Yvette Torres played the second half and finished with two saves.
With the victory, Cal State East Bay improves to 1-3 on the season, while Clinton earns her first victory as head coach of the Pioneers.
